Krakatau is a volcanic archipelago that are still active and located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra . Eruption was so powerful ; hot clouds and the resulting tsunami killed about 36,000 people .

Teluk Kiluan, salah satu surga yang tersembunyi berada
di Kabupaten Tanggamus, tepatnya di bagian selatan Propinsi Lampung dengan
jarak 80 km dari kota Bandar Lampung. Untuk menikmati Teluk Kiluan, ada
beberapa alternatif kendaraan yang bisa anda gunakan yaitu pesawat terbang, bus
atau menyeberangi selat Sunda dengan menggunakan kapal ferry atau kapal
nelayan. Perjalanan yang panjang akan dengan mudah terbayar oleh pemandangan
yang akan kita dapati selama perjalanan.
Teluk Kiluan merupakan jalur migrasi lumba-lumba mulut
botol, sehingga setiap hari dalam Teluk Kiluan anda dapat menyaksikan
penampakan dari satwa yang ramah ini di laut lepas. Atraksi lumba-lumba yang
melompat-lompat tentu sangat menarik untuk disaksikan. Agar dapat menyaksikan
tingkah lucu mamalia sahabat manusia ini, Anda harus menuju sedikit ke tengah
lautan dengan menaiki perahu nelayan yang sudah dilengkapi mesin bermotor.
Perahu ini memiliki kapasitas 4 orang, dan dikenal dengan nama perahu jukung. Harga
sewa 1 buah perahu berkisar Rp 250.000,- s/d Rp 300.000,-. Lumba-lumba tanpa
malu-malu akan mendekati dan melompat di sekitar perahu.
Tidak hanya menyaksikan atraksi lumba-lumba, Teluk
Kiluan memiliki pesona alam laut yang pantas untuk dikagumi. Air laut yang
jernih memudahkan para pengunjung untuk menikmati pemandangan bawah laut yang
terdiri dari beraneka ragam ikan dan terumbu karang dengan aneka warna serta
biota laut lainnya.
Gunung krakatau adalah sebuah gunung api yang terletak di perairan selat
sunda, yang menyebabkan bencana besar bagi dunia. Pada tanggal 26 Agustus 1883,
gunung Krakatau meletus dan memicu tsunami serta hembusan awan panas sehingga
menewaskan ribuan penduduk hindia belanda. Suara letusannya terdengar hingga ke negara Australia. Letusan ini adalah letusan yang sangat berisik karena terus
terjadi selama kurun waktu 40 jam. (sumber: film documenter Krakatoa The Last

Dampak yang ditimbulkan dari letusan bukan hanya tsunami saja, abu dari
letusan tersebut sampai di daratan eropa. Abu letusan Gunung Krakatau yang
menyelimuti atmosfer menyebabkan berkurangnya intensitas sinar dan cahaya
matahari yang jatuh ke permukaan bumi. Kondisi ini bertahan hingga satu tahun
lamanya. Efek jangka panjangnya adalah turunnya suhu udara secara global hingga
abad ke 20. Berdasarkan letusannya tersebut, gunung Krakatau dimasukkan
ke dalam tipe Pelee (Pelean type) dengan ciri-ciri erupsi berupa eksplosif
dengan daya letusan yang sangat besar karena konsentrat magma kental, tekanan
gas tinggi, dan dapur magma yang dalam. Ciri khas erupsi tipe Pelee adalah
pembentukan awan pijar (nuee ardene).
Saat ini telah tumbuh gunung baru di lokasi bekas Gunung Krakatau
(pulau rakata) gunung yang baru tersebut diberi nama gunung anak Krakatau karena
lokasinya yang berada di kaldera bekas gunung Krakatau dan ukurannya yang masih
lebih kecil. Gunung anak Krakatau ini setiap hari tumbuh semakin besar, dengan
rincian bertambah tinggi 6 m dan bertambah lebar 12 m per tahun.
